This text is part of the guide Brand visibility in AI: how it works and how to measure it. We describe the entire platform in the text An AI-powered brand visibility platform: how Aelo works.
What does the free AI brand visibility assessment check?
This free assessment answers five questions that every business asks itself before it starts working on its visibility in AI:
- Do AI models even mention your brand when someone asks about the sector you operate in,
- in which models the brand appears, and in which it does not,
- Do the models cite your website as a source, or do they simply mention its name,
- who they’re recommending instead of you,
- how they describe your company: positively, negatively or neutrally (sentiment).
This is the same sort of check that can be carried out manually by typing questions into several chat rooms. We describe the manual test in the text How to check whether AI recommends your brand. Using Aelo saves you this effort and compiles the results from all models into a single report.
How does the measurement feature work on the Free account?
You start with three phrases that describe what your customers are looking for. The system converts them into the sort of questions people ask chatbots and asks them without mentioning your brand name. This is what it looks like neutral scan: we’re checking whether the model will identify you on its own, rather than whether it will recognise the brand when someone asks about it directly.
Questions are submitted to four models: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. Each of them uses different sources, so you receive the results broken down by model, rather than as a single figure. Details of how the results are calculated are described in our methodology.
What do you get with a Free account?
- One brand with three monitored phrases.
- Measurements across four models: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity.
- Full brand report: how many responses mention the brand, whether the models refer to its website, which competitors it appears alongside, and what they say about it.
- Brand awareness graph in the module Synapsis, based on your input and the measurement results.
- The first three tasks in Tickets, i.e. specific changes that are a good place to start.
- 250 AeloCoins to start with, as a one-off.
- Without a payment card upon registration.
How do you choose three phrases to measure?
Three phrases isn’t many, so each one should check something different. A good combination:
- category phrase, i.e. what you sell: „fertiliser lime manufacturer”, „website design for businesses”,
- a phrase with a restriction, i.e. a city, region or specialism: „accountancy firm for companies in Katowice”,
- problem statement, in other words, what the client comes to us with: „how to prepare a small business for KSeF”.
Do not include your brand name in these phrases. The free AI brand visibility assessment is designed to check whether the model mentions you of its own accord when someone asks about a category. We measure phrases containing your brand name separately if you include them.
How do you interpret the results of the first measurement?
Start with three questions:
- Does the brand appear? If you don’t appear in any of the models, check the report to see who the models recommend instead of you and what sources they use. This gives you a ready-made list of places where your competitors are present but you are not.
- Do the models mention your website? mention means that the model recognises the brand. Citation means that it has recognised your website as a source. References without citations usually indicate that the website lacks specific facts that the model could cite.
- Does the model recognise the brand but not recommend it? This is a common result. We describe it in the text Knows the brand, but doesn’t recommend it.
The result of a single measurement reflects the brand’s status at a given moment. The AI’s responses change almost every time the tool is run, as we explain in the text Why does AI give a different answer every time?. So treat it as a starting point rather than a final assessment.
What should you do after the first measurement?
The report sets out where to start. Most often, there are three types of action:
- Exercises from Tickets. On the Free account, you’ll see the first three; each one describes a specific change.
- Correcting the facts at source. If the model gives an old address, incorrect prices or doesn’t know what you do, correct the information on your website, in your Google Business Profile and in directories. The model simply repeats what it reads.
- Completing the ‘Brand Identity’ form in the brand settings. This is one of the sources for the graph in Synapsis, so the more accurately you complete it, the more relevant the subsequent tasks will be.
Often, no new subpages are needed. The „Węże” lime kiln in Działoszyn did not appear in any of the 18 results in the first search. The changes were made to existing content: the statement of compliance with the standard, the table of parameters and the section on price. Subsequent reports showed 17 out of 18, and then 18 out of 18 queries mentioning the brand. The entire process is described case of a lime manufacturer and his third measurement. He explains why SEO alone wasn’t enough here Visibility in AI and SEO.
What are the limitations of the Free account?
The Free account includes one analysis of one brand across three search terms, with no off-site activities (outreach). The 250 AeloCoins allowance is a one-off and is not renewed each month. Ongoing monitoring, which shows whether changes are working, is available on paid plans, and these differ in terms of the modules available and their scope. We explain how often it is worth carrying out this monitoring in the text How often should visibility be measured?.
You can find out more about working with client brands on the website Aelo for agencies, and on the visibility of local businesses on the website Aelo for small businesses.
How do I set up a Free account and start tracking?
Create a free account in the dashboard, add a brand and its website address, enter three phrases and start the measurement. Once you’ve registered, you can complete the Brand Identity form straight away in the brand settings.
