llms.txt

Visibility in AI
llms.txt is a file on the server that tells the models which content on the page is relevant and how to interpret it. It acts as a guide, not a barrier.

What does that mean?

How is it different from robots.txt?

robots.txt tells web crawlers which pages not to visit. llms.txt does the opposite: it indicates what is worth reading and in what order, usually in the form of a short list of the most important URLs, each with a one-sentence description.
This is a relatively new and non-mandatory standard, so not every model incorporates it. However, the cost of implementation is low, and for large-scale websites, it helps to identify the pages that actually answer customers’ questions, rather than leaving the choice to chance.
